Weber One-Touch Premium Charcoal Barbeques
Weber One Touch charcoal barbeques have long been regarded as the best in class for kettle barbeques. The Weber One Touch Premium range sees the introduction of several improvements over the Original specification. The improvements are not just cosmetic – they make these classic barbeques even better to use.
Of course there will always be arguments as to whether a gas or a charcoal barbeque is better. But as far as charcoal grills are concerned, a kettle has distinct arguments in its favour:-
- You can choose direct grilling (over the hot coals) or indirect cooking (using circulating hot air)
- There’s the space to roast good-size joints of meat or poultry, with great results
- The smoke is retained inside the kettle, improving the flavour of the food
- Flare-ups are reduced as the oxygen levels are more controlled inside the kettle
- Unused charcoal can be kept for re-use, damping down the fire by closing the vents after cooking

What are the particular features of the Weber One-Touch Premium?
- A rust-proof removable ash catcher, mounted below the bowl – just open the ash vents, sift the old ash into the holder and remove cleanly
- A thermometer on the cover helps you to keep an eye on the cooking temperature
- The cooking grate is hinged, meaning that more fuel can be conveniently added during cooking
- Smarter wheel covers
The Premium comes in three sizes – 47, 57 and 67cm. As well as the expected black, the 57cm version has a choice of four chic colours – blue, yellow, ivory and green. The larger and smaller versions come just in black.
It’s worth noting that many users have said that it’s worth buying a chimney starter – a container in which you can light the charcoal quickly (far more quickly than by just laying it in the bowl of the barbeque) and then pouring the glowing fuel into the bowl. A cover is also advisable if you want to leave the barbeque out.
Weber barbeques are not cheap, but be sure that when comparing with cheaper lookalikes, you take account of the build quality. For example, painted light-gauge steel will not last for years as will a heavy duty, porcelain-enamelled Weber. For serious users, who want years of reliable service, a Weber One-Touch Premium is the standard to compare others against.
