Have You Considered Wooden Frames?
The majority of glasses manufactured all over the world are, on the whole, made from either plastic, metal, or a mixture of the two. But with people becoming far more aware of growing environmental issues, manufacturing processes are more commonly using renewable sources and thus wooden glasses have become increasingly popular.
Such environmental concerns were likely the main issue behind the inception of wooden-framed glasses, as they can be consciously disposed of and responsibly manufactured. They also do a good job of keeping the public reminded that we live in an age where we cannot afford to ignore global environmental concerns.
But what are the other positives to choosing wood frames for your glasses?
For a start, wooden frames are very cost effective, and can cost substantially less than the metal or plastic equivalents. The procedure for producing them is also extremely simple and represents a distinct saving in time, money and environmental costs during the manufacturing process.
Wooden-framed glasses are also useful for anyone who suffers from an allergy to certain metals or plastics. If you have an allergy like this, then wooden frames should allow you to wear eyeglasses without any adverse reaction; due in the most part to their use of natural materials.
You can also fit any kind of lens to wooden-framed glasses, making them an ideal choice if you use prescription glasses. The materials used in these kind of glasses make them particularly robust and means they don’t suffer from losing their shape, like a lot of other glasses.
There are a few small negatives to using wooden frames however. Their main problem comes from their lack of flexibility, meaning then can be snapped if too much pressure is applied or they’re dropped, stood on, etc. They’re also not particularly great if you get them wet, as the wood takes a while to try (although they should be ok once they have dried out properly). Your best bet is to ensure you keep your glasses in the case whenever you’re not using them, and this should prevent any unfortunate incidents.
Wooden glasses also now have the cool factor to them, with KATA (Japanese glasses manufacturer) now producing some fantastic wooden glasses and designer sunglasses utilising wooden frames. Celebrities have also recently been seen capitalising on the popularity of wooden glasses, with the likes of Samuel L Jackson and Will Smith recently being spotted sporting the frames.
