A Little Appreciation For The Ice Cube Machine
The ice cube machine was first introduced in the USA by Dr. John Dorrie on 14 July 1850 to the amazement of people attending a party, when he made ice by refrigeration.
Ice cubes get made faster in an ice maker than a normal refrigerators. You can have ice cubes within minutes after the machine reached the desired temperature. Water gets circulated by a pump and continuously feeds water onto a freezing plate. The water freezers in layers and when it reaches a certain thickness it slides down onto a heated grid. The heated grid cut the ice in smaller sizes. These cubes will fall into a holding container where it is kept clear, separated and frost free.
We have come a long way ever since John Dorrie first introduced the ice cube machine. There are now different kinds of machines. The most common is the portable machine we use in our homes. This can be connected to a water supply but normally comes with a water reservoir. The cubes can also be adjusted to different sizes. It takes about 6 minutes to create 6 to 12 cubes at a time.
The under counter can be used in homes but are mainly used for small commercial establishments. It is front vented to allow for other appliances to stand right next to it. They also have larger reservoirs.
The commercial machines cater for high volume users such as hotels, restaurants, catering companies, hotels etc. It is strongly build for durability and high volumes.
There are also different kinds of ice that can be produced. Ice cubes is most commonly used in households. Ice chips used for packing perishable products. Crushed ice used for cocktails. Ice nuggets which contains of compressed ice flakes mostly used for cooling beverages.
Just imagine a restaurant or hotel has an ice maker that breaks down in the middle of summer. They will lose thousands in revenue as people would flock to other places where ice cubes is readily available to cool down their drinks. These places need to make sure they have reliable ice makers.
There are a few points you must remember when buying an ice maker. There are two kinds of cooler systems in ice machines. The air cooled machines are more affordable than the water cooled machines but more costly to run.
Make sure the noise level is acceptable for where it is going to be used. For reliability make sure it has minimal moving parts. Buying two new machines is sometimes better than buying one big machine. This will ensure continued supply of ice when one breaks down. Ensure that the machine you buy has clear installation and maintenance instructions. Consider the water cost in your area when buying a machine. There are two kinds of cooler systems in ice machines. Water cooler system will also be more expensive to operate where water cost is high.
Today we cannot imagine a world without the ice cube machine. It has become part of our life and sometimes we take it for granted. Just imagine walking into a restaurant and the waiter brings your wine without ice.
