Ideas for bathroom renovations are endless. Functionality and form are merging in a fusion of polished modernity, but it’s all about personal preference and style. Clever designers are integrating thoroughly modern materials with old fashioned comfort. The traditional glass or Perspex shower enclosure makes way for gently sloping floors and cleverly integrated floor drains, enabling total integration of the shower area into the cohesive whole.
Another emerging trend is for bathrooms to be placed on centre stage in the bedroom, without having a separate room. Clever design is again the name of the game to ensure that privacy and discretion isn’t compromised.
There’s also a huge choice of new materials to use in bathroom design these days, and people aren’t afraid to mix the rough with the smooth to create a visually rewarding and very tactile effect. From traditional bathroom designs such as Victorian and English Country to contemporary sleek and fabulous futuristic, the choice of materials can range from stone and wood, marble and metallics, stainless steel to copper, limestone to travertine, ceramics to coloured glass – to name but a few.
Bathroom colour schemes are as individual as you are – ranging from moody black to pure white. It’s all about personal choice, but some of the more popular schemes today are mocha, black and grey, chocolate and cream, bright blue and lime green. Recurring shapes in bathrooms (ie the shape of the basin, the shape of the bath etc) also need to be considered, with square or rectangular shapes still popular and ovals and freeflowing forms also coming to the fore.

The internet, décor magazines, trade shows and exhibitions offer a treasure trove of ideas and options to create your own special space.
