Where do I start if I am broke, dont have great credit and wanna open a bar?
I been laid off for 4 months and want to go into business for myself. I have wanted to open a bar for several years but dont know what I have to do. Being laid off I am broke of course and because of being young and dumb in the past I dont have very good credit. I need some advice and pointers. I live in Louisiana.
Do you have any bar experience? If you don’t, then you need to get some before you open your own place. This is also how you get the money to get started. You will need experience in bartending, in bouncing, and in managing the bar. Otherwise you won’t be able to fill in where you’re needed, and before you say that you’ll hire people for those jobs, well, guess who fills in when someone calls in sick? That’s right, it’s the owner or manager. You also need this experience so that you’ll know how people can rip you off, and take steps to prevent this.
You WILL need money. Most people have a nest egg when they start their own businesses. Sometimes people can get a loan to start a business, but the bank will want you to put a lot of your own money into it, too. Sometimes you can find an investor, but having an investor means that you’ll have someone else who can tell you what to do, and how to do it.
